Join us to remove buckthorn along Minnehaha Creek and do our part to preserve our shared green spaces. In early 2023 FRNNG began a Park Stewardship Agreement with the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board (MPRB) to address rapid erosion and ecological damage along the watershed. The wooded area between 12th Ave and Bloomington Ave along the creek is struggling from an overgrowth of common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) which is not native to our region. So we are launching a series of events to help nature and our neighborhood by working together to care for our green spaces.
Join us in June! We’ll provide training and tools to carefully control buckthorn along Minnehaha Creek, email volunteer@frnng.org to get involved.
We will share the project guidelines and go over safety before teaming up to mark, cut, and remove buckthorn from the creek side. Tools will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own loppers, gloves, and safety glasses if you have them. (Waivers may be signed in advance or on site.)
